Last nights game may have had big implications on the playoff seeding by moving the Hurricanes 2-points ahead of the Penguins and into full control of fifth place. Even though the Penguins picked up a point last night they stiil need to gather a couple wins in the final four games of the season to lock up a playoff spot.
The Penguins looked to dominate the game right off the bat with a quick goal from Tyler Kennedy about 6 minutes in. Then things turned for the worse the Hurricanes started to take over the game and registered a goal of their own tieing things up at 1 a piece with 6 minutes remaining in the period. The shot count was ridiculous in the first with both teams registering 15 shots a piece.

In the second period it was more of the same with the Hurricanes scoring a quick goal 57 seconds in and goalie Cam Ward standing on his head stopping everything the Penguins threw his way. It was good to see that Fleury stood up the task and did the same stopping some good scoring chances even though the defense had broken down in front of him from time to time.

In the 3rd it seemed like all was lost after seeing the Penguins look normal against the 'Canes in the second until TK setup Jordan Staal on the left point to tie the game up at 2 goals a piece. The game would then settle down as both goalies shut down shop. The Pens had an incredible scoring chance as Geno was on the breakaway only to be tripped up as he was about to put the Penguins ahead, giving him the much dreaded penalty shot where once again no dice.
The game went into overtime where the Penguins crapped the bed and came up empty and unable to get the puck out of their zone giving Carolina the perfect opportunity to seal a victory and get the extra point.
