The Penguins came up with the short straw in the shootout against the Islanders in today's Presidents Day Matinee. I'm not jumping on the Dan Bylsma coaching style bandwagon yet being that this is the only first game under Bylsma and the team hasn't had anytime to pratice anything under him yet. Although I will say that I can't agree with the way the Penguins were flying all over the place allowing the Islanders some great scoring chances. The defensive scheme deployed by the Islanders didn't help very much either.

1st Period
The game bounced back and fourth while the Pens got their skates underneath them with the recent coaching change. The Islanders get a crap goal from Chris Campoli putting the Isles up 1-0. Not to be outdone Geno gets a breakaway and buries one tying the game at 1 a piece.
2nd Period
The Islanders dominated most the first half of the period before getting another shit goal from Frans Nielsen. Islander Mark Streit takes a holding penalty, Pens go on the powerplay Bing sets up Whitney on the point for the goal to tie things up again.
3rd Period
The third period bounced back and fourth both teams getting quality scoring opportunities but neither team was able to capitalize sending this one into extras.
Overtime
It was pretty much the same as the third, there was a big scoring chance with Staal and Fedotenko but Staal had the puck poke checked away at the last minute. The game went into a shootout where the first 2 Islander shooters lulled Flower to sleep before shooting the puck giving the Isles a 2-1 advantage in the shootout. Petr Sykora was the only Penguin shooter to score in the shootout.

The Penguins take on the Canadiens on Thursday night at Mellon Arena @ 7:00pm.
